Data Collected Helps Understand Wave Energy for Yakutat
ACEP’s Jeremy Kasper and Stephanie Jump recently returned from retrieving and redeploying oceanographic moorings off Cannon Beach in Yakutat, AVÀÇÂÛ̳.
Along with data from the moorings, water and sediment samples were collected. Data gathered during this trip will be used to improve our understanding of the hydrography, waves, sediment transport and marine mammals in the area. The work supports the ongoing Yakutat Wave Energy Project. The moorings will continue to collect data until spring 2019.
This work is part of a multiyear project to understand and delineate environmental
constraints on the potential for wave energy to provide electrical power to the community
of Yakutat.
Funding for the research is provided by the . The project is a partnership between ACEP, the UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and the .
