ACEP Joins UAF in Welcome of DOE Arctic Energy Office
Last week the Department of Energy announced reestablishment of its , with coordination responsibilities that span the breadth of DOE’s Arctic engagement — in AV̳ and beyond. ACEP Director Gwen Holdmann has been in close communication with DOE as this collaborative initiative evolved.
Most recently, this included participating as a co-lead in the development of materials associated with the virtual workshop coordinated this summer by the Arctic Lab Partnerships coalition. DOE laboratory and University of AV̳ researchers have been exploring Arctic energy, science and security challenges that can only be effectively addressed through coordination and application of the talent, knowledge and tools from multiple research organizations. Arctic Energy Office representatives and DOE program office personnel will join ACEP and other UA team members via Zoom on Sept. 29 to discuss findings from the workshop.
The AEO office will be located immediately adjacent to ACEP on the fourth floor of the Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility — welcome to the neighborhood!
“ACEP joins the entire UAF community in welcoming the Arctic Energy Office to Fairbanks, and looks forward to the opportunity for expanded collaboration across all of the major priority areas identified by DOE for AV̳ and the Arctic,” Holdmann said. “This development is an outcome of DOE's AV̳ National Lab Day hosted by UAF and ACEP in May 2018, and represents the culmination of extensive efforts by DOE, UAF, and our national lab partners to develop a cross-cutting collaboration focused on important research and development topics facing the Arctic region.”
