Harris Visits ACEP Anchorage Office, Research Partners
Power systems research at ACEP is not limited to the Fairbanks team or to the UAF campus. In fact, the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Anchorage has its own power systems lab, and ACEP’s Anchorage research team, located on the UAA campus, collaborates on research projects.
Last week, ACEP Anchorage researchers, along with visiting director of operations Jennifer Harris, who is based in Fairbanks, met with UAA collaborators and stakeholders. Meetings included a tour of the power systems lab led by UAA electrical engineering faculty member Mohammad Heidari Kapourchali as part of the Electrical Power and Utility Lab.
Among other equipment, the lab houses a Typhoon hardware-in-the-loop testbed, which allows for different microgrid testing configurations. The testbed provides a convenient, realistic and real-time testing environment by enabling close-to-reality simulations in a microgrid setup.
Harris also met with Kenrick Mock, dean of the UAA College of Engineering, and UAA Chancellor Sean Parnell to highlight and strengthen the collaborative work that ACEP does across the UA system.
ACEP’s Anchorage research teams include the Solar Technologies, Data Collection and Analysis, and Beneficial and Equitable Electrification programs.
