Video Training Helps Educators to Continue Sharing their Knowledge
COVID-19 travel restrictions and social distancing precautions have made in-person workshops and training events less accessible. The UAF Cooperative Extension Service, through a Renewable Resources Extension Act program, has created a way to share educational programs.
ACEP’s Amanda Byrd traveled to Palmer and Anchorage last week to share some of her storytelling and filming techniques with CES forester Glen Holt and with the Chugachmiut tribe’s staff. The goal was to help forest management educators do their work through videos.
In Palmer, Renewable Energy AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Project energy educator Colleen Fisk participated in the trainings along with Holt. Four collaborative forest stewardship and home wood-energy videos were filmed. Fisk and Holt learned to run the camera equipment, filming each other and creating supplemental footage, or B-roll.
Byrd will continue to provide technical assistance with editing and filming so the videos can be shared with communities.
