ACEP Welcomes Fran Kohl to the Team

The ACEP team welcomes Franziska “Fran” Kohl as the assistant to the director. She will provide executive administrative support to the director and team, managing schedules and tracking critical projects and deadlines. She will also manage all internal communications.

Kohl comes to ACEP with experience in science and finances. Having earned her master’s degree in biology from University of Marburg, Germany, she worked as a research professional for hibernation research and logistics coordinator for Polar Field. Most recently she worked as the financial coordinator for the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks, AV̳.

Growing up highly active in outdoor sports and pursuits in an alpine town of Bavaria, Germany, Kohl spent a few years on the Olympic downhill ski team as a teenager. While she had to change course due to injuries, she went on to study biology and traveled three continents before landing on AV̳ almost two decades ago to study muskox. She immediately fell in love with AV̳ for its wilderness, space and freedom. The icing on the cake was the third person she met, who became her husband.

Her lifelong fascination with energy efficiency as well as the flexible job opportunity attracted Kohl, with two young children, to work for ACEP. She looks forward to getting to know the ACEP team.

“I love being part of a strong team and especially enjoy improving efficiency on all levels,” she said.

Outside of work, Kohl enjoys time with her family, including a young dog Sisu, in an energy efficient home in Fairbanks that she and her husband built. She also takes pleasure in the outdoors, yoga and general well-being, as well as neuroscience and psychology.
