Spinning Blue Empties
AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Department of English will host the MFA in Creative Writing thesis defense of Kathy Kitts next week. This event, marking the culmination of her graduate studies, is open to the public and available both in person and via Zoom.
Kitts presents Spinning Blue Empties, a gripping science fiction novel exploring omniscience, divinity, and redemption. The story poses a fundamental question: if you had the ability to achieve near-total knowledge, would you relinquish it to save humanity? With a background in planetary geology, Kitts blends scientific insight with philosophical inquiry, crafting a compelling narrative that challenges our understanding of power and sacrifice.
Dr. Kitts, a retired planetary geologist, was part of NASA’s Discovery Mission Genesis team. After a career spent studying the cosmos, she turned her focus to the written word, pursuing her MFA at UAF. Originally from the desert Southwest, she embraced Fairbanks’ starkly different climate as an adventure, much like her exploration of new creative frontiers.
