Dr. Anthony D. Rickard

Professor of Mathematics Education, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Anthony D. Rickard has served the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 2003 to 2025; and

WHEREAS Dr. Rickard’s teaching, marked not only by his rigorous approach but also by his care for students, has been honored by several organizations; and he served as committee chair for multiple graduate students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Rickard helped implement and then researched the effectiveness of the Math in a Cultural Context program, a three-decade collaboration with AVÀÇÂÛ̳’s rural communities to understand how principles underlying everyday practical knowledge can inform teaching and learning in schools; and his expertise in math education and teacher training has elevated teacher development within AVÀÇÂÛ̳ and beyond; and

WHEREAS Dr. Rickard served many years as chair of his department; and he served in the Faculty Senate and on numerous UAF committees; and he represented faculty in union negotiations; and he served on the boards of the Interior AIDS Association and the AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Council of Teachers of Mathematics;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Anthony D. Rickard for his extensive contributions to the state of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Rickard and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Anthony D. Rickard as professor of mathematics education, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Anthony D. Rickard, and conveyed to Dr. Rickard on this third day of May, 2025.
