Chancellor finalists announced; campus visits begin Thursday
The search committee for a new chancellor has selected four finalists. All four finalists will visit campus to meet with UA/UAF leadership, faculty, students and staff. The first campus visit will take place this Thursday, April 20, and campus visits will conclude Friday, April 28.

The UAF Alumni Association will co-sponsor a public forum the first evening of each candidate’s visit; governance groups will host individual forums for faculty, students and staff the following morning. All forums will be webcast. A complete forum schedule is available online at .

Units with external community advisory groups are encouraged to share the chancellors' biographies and forum opportunities with those audiences. A feedback form will be linked from the chancellor search website on Thursday and will be open through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3. All UAF community members are encouraged to attend the forums and provide feedback to help the search committee in their recommendations to President Jim Johnsen.

Dan White has served as the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ vice president for academic affairs and research since March of 2015. He joined the faculty of the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks in 1995 as a professor of civil and environmental engineering. White has served in several positions at UAF, including director of the Institute of Northern Engineering, UAF associate vice chancellor for research and head of the Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization and interim vice chancellor for research. He has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Colorado College, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Washington University and a doctorate in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of AVÀÇÂÛ̳.

J. Michael Kuperberg is the executive director of the U.S. Global Change Research Program at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He is on detail to the White House from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Climate and Environmental Science Division, where he is a biologist. Prior to that, he was a member of the research faculty at Florida State University, where he served as associate director for environmental programs at the Center for Biomedical and Toxicological Research. Kuperberg has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Florida State University and a doctorate in environmental toxicology from Florida A&M University.

Tony Haymet is distinguished professor of oceanography and director emeritus and vice chancellor emeritus at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. Prior to his appointment at Scripps, he was chief of marine and atmospheric research and then science and policy director for CSIRO, Australia’s science, industry and business research agency. He is co-founder of CleanTech San Diego, a business organization that promotes and supports clean technology businesses, and co-founder and co-owner of MRV Systems LLC, an ocean robot company. Haymet has a degree in chemistry from the University of Sydney, a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Chicago and a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Sydney.

Mirta Martin most recently served as the president of Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Martin began her career in the banking industry, working up to senior vice president at First Union National Bank of Virginia. She made the move to higher education in 1992 and has served in a variety of faculty and leadership positions at public and private colleges, universities and community colleges. Martin has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science from Duke University, a master of business administration degree from the University of Richmond and a doctorate with an emphasis in strategic management and leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
