As our nation grapples with the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville, it’s worth pausing to consider how vital diversity and equality is to our university community.
Next week, we will welcome thousands of students from across AVÀÇÂÛ̳ and the United States, and from around the globe. They bring with them a wealth of experiences and cultures that enrich our campuses and our communities.
Now, more than ever, we must all rally around these ideals: UAF welcomes all, including those of different nationalities, religions, races and genders. We are a place for diversity of thought and civil discourse. We reject the type of violence and hatred wrought on the community of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia campus by white supremacists and neo-Nazis.
Our university must be a safe and respectful place for all. Hate and violence have no home here. I hope you will join me in using the months ahead to steel our resolve to be an inclusive university that celebrates the richness of our diverse community.
