Four selected as provost finalists
AVÀÇÂÛ̳ will hold public forums this month with four finalists in the search for a new provost. The finalists, selected after a national search, will make brief presentations and answer questions from members of the public and the campus community.

Following is a schedule of presentations with each candidate:

Betty Lou Leaver Wednesday, April 4, 4 p.m., Schaible Auditorium Leaver has most recently served as the provost at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. She has a doctorate in education, a master’s degree in comparative literature and a bachelor’s degree in linguistics. A faculty coffee reception will take place Thursday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the Murie Building lobby.

Rajib Sanyal Monday, April 16, 4 p.m., Schaible Auditorium Sanyal currently serves as dean of the Willumstad School of Business at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. He has a doctorate in business administration, master's degrees in industrial relations and commerce, and a bachelor's degree in accountancy. A faculty coffee reception will take place Tuesday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. in Murie Building Room 301.

Paul Layer Thursday, April 19, 4 p.m., Schaible Auditorium Layer currently serves as interim vice president for academic and student affairs for the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ system. He has a doctorate in geophysics, a master’s degree in geophysics and a bachelor’s degree in geology. A faculty coffee reception will take place Friday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the Murie Building lobby.

Anupma Prakash Monday, April 23, 4 p.m., Schaible Auditorium Prakash currently serves as a professor of geophysics at UAF, the interim dean of the UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics and the director of the National Science Foundation’s AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, which is headquartered at UAF. She has a doctorate in earth sciences, a master’s degree in geology and a bachelor’s degree in geology, zoology and botany. A faculty coffee reception will take place Tuesday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the Murie Building lobby.

The forums will be webcast live and archived at , for those who cannot make the forums in person. Following each forum, there will be an online form for people to give feedback to the chancellor and search committee.

Chancellor Dan White plans to name a new provost in early summer. The new provost will succeed Provost Susan Henrichs, who will retire this summer. The provost is the chief academic officer for UAF, overseeing its eight colleges and schools, the library and the UA Museum of the North, as well as several other academic support units, including Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning, and eLearning and Distance Education.
