A proposal to cover Arctic sea ice with layers of tiny hollow glass spheres about
the thickness of one human hair would actually accelerate sea-ice loss and warm the
climate rather than creating thick ice and lowering the temperature as proponents
claim.
Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines at the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳
are eligible and invited to apply for an award of $2,500 for a research project using
any collection at the AVÀÇÂÛ̳ and Polar Regions Collections & Archives at the Elmer
E. Rasmuson Library.
Nanook Recreation is opening up another youth Beginning Rec Climbing Club for youth
ages 8-18 who are interested in rock climbing.
University Relations will be implementing changes to the UAF web template themes as part of our ongoing brand refresh.
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training will be offered Tuesday, Nov. 1, from
2-5 p.m. via Zoom by the Office of Research Integrity. It is an NIH requirement that
all BLaST GMRAs, Scholars, UREs and other funded projects participate in RCR training.
This is the only formal RCR training at UAF this semester, and is a two-part training where both parts are required to earn your RCR certificate.
The University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Museum of the North is exploring bats during hands-on programs
in October. Families are invited to drop in with children 5 and younger at Early Explorers on
Friday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m.-noon. Junior Curators, designed for children 6 and older
with an adult, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 2-4 p.m. These programs are
included with admission and are free for members.

The Elmer E. Rasmuson Library will host a book discussion of:Ìý'The AVÀÇÂÛ̳n Blonde: Sex, Secrets, and the Hollywood Story that Shocked America'.
Join us Monday, Oct. 10 from 1-2 p.m. in the main floor of the Rasmuson Library to
hear the author speak in person about his research methods and the unfolding of the
true crime that was one of Fairbanks' most shocking unsolved mysteries.
Spring Student Project Awards fund undergraduate research and creative activity projects
up to $3,000 for individuals or up to $6,000 for a group of two or more students.
Funds may be used toward fellowships (student stipends), tuition, travel, or supplies/services.
