2023 Toolik Field Station All Scientists Meeting registration closes today

Toolik Field Station welcomes all to join them for two days of science and conversation at their biennial All Scientists Meeting this January in Santa Barbara, California. The meeting is intended to spark conversation, inspire new ideas, and garner feedback amongst the Toolik community. Registration was extended through Jan. 4, 2023.

Nominations open for 2023 Chancellor's Cornerstone Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 Chancellor's Cornerstone Award. The award recognizes UAF staff members who have shown outstanding and ongoing commitment to UAF's community and mission.听Submit a nomination using the听听by听Feb. 15, 2023.

Academic Plan feedback requested

We ask for your听听on the听听over the next five years. UAF has begun the process of developing a new academic vision for the university. Please send us your thoughts by Jan. 15, 2023. Thank you for participating in this important planning process.

Here Comes the Sun concert听

UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning will present a free concert on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall. Join us as we celebrate longer days ahead with Kinky Slinky and the South Cushman Social Club.

Field safety for researchers

Nanook Recreation has put together a menu of hard and soft skills requested by researchers to help create safer field sites and safer researchers. We thank Vice Chancellor for Research Nettie La Belle-Hamer for supporting this program once again. Details can be found here:听Academic classes and field safety courses | Nanook Recreation. Please note we will be doing sign-ups a little differently. On Jan. 10 at noon, we will post and open a Google form. Participants can complete the form with their requests and Fund-Org.

Wilderness First Responder class

Historically, UAF offers a Wilderness First Responder class in May. The instructor has retired from WFR and will not be here this year. Nanook Rec is hosting a WFR that meets during the semester. This training is very high quality, near equivalent to an EMT without the ambulance. We require at least one leader to have this training on any trip Nanook Rec does outside the city. The certification is identical to the May course, just spread out over a few weeks. We can accept Fund-Org for payment, but the course fee is not covered by the VC Research office.
