Friday Focus: CTC still the place to be

One of the great honors of serving as vice chancellor of rural, community and Native education is having the opportunity to work closely with the leadership, faculty, and staff of UAF’s Community and Technical College. As the proud daughter of a former firefighter, I grew up within the first responder community and understand the value of workforce programs that prepare those professionals for careers of service. I have fond memories as a teenager volunteering as the City of Fairbanks Fire Department’s Binky the Bear mascot and riding the fire engine in the Golden Days Parade. Little did I know then that two decades later, I would have the opportunity to again participate in the same parade but this time, representing UAF CTC programs. Party in the Park: Table registration

Far North Currant Festival highlights less-known AK berry

Currants are getting their day in the spotlight at the Far North Currant Festival. Currants, a type of berry, grow well in AVÀÇÂÛ̳ and are found across the state, with varieties ranging from a translucent red to trailing black. Read more about the free Aug. 24 event.


Sutton to lead Honors College

Vice Provost Trent Sutton has been named interim director of the UAF Honors College. Sutton succeeds Alex Hirsch, who served as Honors College director since 2018. Sutton will continue to serve in his role as vice provost and accreditation liaison officer, a position he has held for the past year. Read more on Sutton's previous roles at the university.


Online workshop: Unconscious bias

While biases aid people in making decisions, they can also leave out part of the story, leading to a society where everyone operates from their own viewpoint. This Sept. 12 workshop from ComPsych will allow attendees to discover their biases and impact. Learn more and register for the online workshop.

Museum exhibit, video series to explain Aleutian Island storm history
