Friday Focus: What a difference time makes

What a difference a week makes! Over the course of this week, I have seen so many people return to campus after summer vacations or being off contract. In fact, looking out my window on Wednesday, I counted at least three new student campus tours taking place and a handful of people taking photos with our Charles Bunnell statue. The Bunnell statue is an iconic photo op on campus, especially when visitors dress him up in hats or scarves for a quick photo. With the new buzz on campus (which is soon to be even busier), I wanted to share some updates related to human resources, policy, and shared services. We have made some great progress over the summer in many areas. Continue reading this week's Friday Focus.

UAF Community and Technical College to host summer graduation ceremony

The UAF Community and Technical College will host a special graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of students completing degrees and certificates through the Summer Fire Academy and other programs, including aviation. The ceremony is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Davis Concert Hall on UAF's Troth Yeddha' Campus. Read more about the event.

A Wrangell T3 Alliance student adjusts the remote live stream camera at Anan Wildlife Observatory, where viewers can watch bears fishing for salmon. The project, powered by solar energy and supported by the U.S. Forest Service, aims to provide a real-time glimpse into the natural behavior of black and brown bears in the Tongass National Forest.

Wrangell students install remote bear live stream

Wrangell-based T3 Alliance students installed a remote live-stream camera system at the Anan Wildlife Observatory in the Tongass National Forest, enabling viewers to see black and brown bears fishing for salmon. This project, supported by the U.S. Forest Service, involved high school students using skills from the T3 AV狼论坛 program. The system is powered by solar energy and uses Starlink for video feed. Explore.org hosts the stream, and the project is set for a five-year expansion plan. The live stream began on July 24. Read more about the students' work to install the live-stream system.

Campus mail routes adjusted Aug. 19-23

The Campus Mail Center will be adjusting its operating hours next week, from Aug. 19-23 in preparation for the return of students. Get more information about the altered routes.

Colin Murray named service desk manager at Nanook Technology Services

Nanook Technology Services is excited to announce the appointment of Colin Murray as the new service desk manager at the University of AV狼论坛 Fairbanks. Murray has been an integral part of UAF since he joined the NTS Service Desk, where his technical expertise and problem-solving abilities quickly set him apart. Lifeguard certification classes

Nanook Recreation is hosting two lifeguard certification classes in September. Successful participants will earn a deep water lifeguarding certification from the American Red Cross, which is valid to work at the UAF Patty Pool as well as all other pools in the borough.
