What words of advice do you have for seniors in high school right now?
Use all of the resources available to you throughout your high school. There are a lot of people that are willing to help you succeed if you are willing to put in the time and effort. I would also recommend applying to every scholarship possible. College can be expensive and scholarships are a quick and easy way to pay for school.
Who was one person you’d suggest students connect with to get advice and assistance?
I would say that they should get in contact with their advisor as soon as possible, because they are always more than willing to help you out with whatever you need. They will at least point you in the right direction and give you contact information of someone else that will help you.
What’s one thing you wish you were told before coming to college?
Just how different from high school it is. It is literally nothing like high school. You are completely on your own and you have to know how to adjust. Try to make as many friends as possible, because it will make college a lot more enjoyable.
Do you have any advice or suggestions about financial aid?
Just apply to every single scholarship that is available to you. That is extremely important.
What is your reason for continuing your education? Why are you a student?
I am continuing my education because I enjoy going to school and I wanted to continue growing as a person. We are all told that we must have a college degree to succeed in today’s society, but you should only go to college if you feel that’s what you want to do.
How do you suggest students overcome roadblocks or any challenges they face along the way?
I found that the best way to overcome challenges throughout school is to talk to someone about it. They may not be able to help, but it helps to get stress off your chest. It doesn’t matter who it is, whether it’s a friend or your advisor, it always helps.
What are some things you did that helped you prepare for college?
Growing up, I always wanted to be the best student I possibly could be, even if that meant taking two math classes to get ahead or doing summer programs that allowed you to take college courses. I was always wanting to get a head start, and those summer programs helped so much.
