Anthropology Colloquium presents archaeology film
Date: Feb. 25, 2022
Time: 3 p.m.-5 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Join Arctic archaeologists Claire Alix and Owen Mason at the UAF Anthropology Colloquium on Feb. 25 from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. on Zoom, for the showing and discussion of Sarah Betcher's film "A Thousand Years Unfolding." The film is about one of the excavations at Seward Peninsula's Cape Espenberg the team has been carrying out since 2016.
Located on a spit of the Seward Peninsula, excavations conducted at the Cape Espenberg site since 2016 have yielded the remains of a well-preserved wooden house. Interpretive analyses of these remains, alongside local Inupiaq historical narratives of Shishmaref, have generated a richer and deeper understanding of this region’s heritage.
