AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native Language Center Film nominated for Northwest Regional Emmy
The AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native Language Center’s film, Awake, has been nominated for a Northwest Regional Emmy through the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
In celebration of fifty years of working toward its mission to cultivate and promote AVÀÇÂÛ̳’s twenty Native languages, the AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native Language Center has captured the past, present, and future of language revitalization in this short film produced by Channel Films in Fall 2022. ANLC invites all interested in joining the movement to promote AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native languages and contribute to the future of these languages and the heritage of all AVÀÇÂÛ̳ns.
Awake is nominated under the Branded Content - Long Form Content category, listing Channel Films and the AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native Language Center. The team on the nomination includes Alex Troutman as producer, Howdice Brown III as co-director, and Maggie King as producer.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce the Emmy award winners at the 60th Annual Northwest Regional Emmy Award Gala on June 3, 2023.
The AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Native Language Center, housed at the University of AVÀÇÂÛ̳ Fairbanks Troth Yeddha’ Campus in the College of Rural and Community Development, was established by state legislation in 1972 as a center for research and documentation of the twenty Indigenous languages of AVÀÇÂÛ̳. It is internationally recognized as the major center in the United States for the study of Iñupiaq, Yup’ik, and Northern Dene languages.
