Guthrie hired for new VCSAEM position
Jan. 20, 2022
In an effort to enhance the role of our enrollment management strategy in our student affairs division I have merged the roles of vice chancellor for student affairs (VCSA) and associate vice chancellor of enrollment management (AVCEM) under a single position, vice chancellor of student affairs and enrollment management (VCSAEM). After an open, internal search I am pleased to announce that Owen Guthrie will serve as our first ever VCSAEM for UAF.
For the past three years Guthrie has served as executive director of UAF eCampus, where he displayed a passion for innovation, expanding access to education and modernizing the student experience. Guthrie was an instructor of online pedagogy and instructional design for the masters of online innovation and design program at UAF School of Education for eight years, played a key role in UAF's Strategic Enrollment Planning efforts starting in 2018, and served as acting associate vice chancellor for enrollment management in spring of 2021.
Guthrie was born and raised in Fairbanks. His career with UAF began in 1984 at Tanana Valley Community College. Since then, he has found his place working in the service of AVÀÇÂÛ̳'s students, faculty, and researchers. He received a bachelors of science from Colorado State University in wildlife biology with an emphasis in geographic information systems and spatial data analysis, and a masters of arts in military history from Norwich University. He served as director of information technology at Michigan's Olivet College for four years during an inspiring time of transformation and institutional revitalization.
Guthrie will transition into this new role on Jan. 24. Provost Prakash will share news soon on the transition plan UAF eCampus leadership. Please join me in congratulating VC Guthrie.
