January Rural Staff Spotlight: Wanda Wahl
Wanda Wahl stepped into her current position as Bristol Bay Campus interim director in May 2021. She has been the second longest acting Bristol Bay Campus director ever. Wanda is a lifelong resident of Dillingham and a member of the Curyung Tribe.
She began her career with BBC in 1985 after graduating from Linfield College. After a hiatus, she returned to BBC in 2015, and has since served in several different positions including Administrative Manager. At BBC, Wanda has repeatedly risen to guide the campus through challenges in support of the university's mission. Her leadership and commitment to keep "the plates twirling" has been the glue that has held the campus together.
She has worked tirelessly and set an example that promotes pride in the campus among staff and faculty. She has an encouraging management style, she has the quintessential "can do" attitude and will roll up her sleeves to get the job done. Wanda strongly prioritizes education, the students, and the educators at the Bristol Bay campus and does whatever she can to create opportunities for other people's success.
Do you know a staff member from one of UAF’s rural campuses who deserves recognition? Maybe someone who always works hard for their students, their co-workers, their community or UAF as a whole? You can nominate any staff member from a rural campus . If you have any questions, please contact UAF Staff Council’s Rural Affairs Committee members Tara Borland or Courtney Pagh.
