Why are you passionate about UAF students and their success?
There are a million and one reasons why I am so passionate about UAF students and their success. To put it simply, it fills my heart with joy to see students happy and fulfilled. I love learning the “why” of each student I interact with and supporting them through their journey to success. I have learned that every student has different needs, different things that motivate them, and different obstacles that they face. Being a part of supporting them is an incredible honor that I do not take lightly!
Favorite part about being the director of Career Services?
My favorite part about being the director of Career Services is helping create connections between students and employers. Students work so hard in their courses and I love when I am able to be a part of their next steps. Whether this is deciding on a major, finding an internship, networking with an employer at a career fair or finding a job- all of it brings me so much joy! I also really appreciate that we have a resource such as Handshake, a job board & networking platform, to help connect students/alumni to employers.
What is your favorite feature in Nanook Navigator?
My favorite part of Nanook Navigator is being able to quickly make appointments with students. Whether it is me going in and or sending a student my - I love the ease of it and that it connects directly to my Google Calendar which I rely on daily.
How long have you been utilizing Nanook Navigator?
I started working at the university in June of 2021 and have been using it ever since!
Tips, advice, or ideas to support other Nanook Navigator users or student success practices?
My biggest advice is to take it slow and learn the different areas of Nanook Navigator. There are so many recorded and trainings available to help learn everything you need to know! There are still areas that I need to learn but I know that even utilizing certain parts of it is contributing to both my success as an advisor and student success! Embrace the change and take it one step at a time!
